Wadala Metro station to shift 53m making space for GST Bhavan

In an opposite trend in Mumbai where, every property near a proposed metro station is approaching the metro authorities for connecting them directly to metro station, The Wadala Metro station will be shifted by 53m to make space for upcoming GST Bhawan.

The state had proposed a GST Bhavan on the same plot where the Wadala metro station for Line IV has also been proposed. Officials said the design for the bhavan clashed with the construction of the station.

A major difficulty is the presence of mangroves on the plot and the need to reclaim some portions of it. “We had wanted to integrate the metro station with the GST Bhavan, but the architect for the bhavan was adamant not to do it,” said an MMRDA official.

At a meeting with deputy CM Ajit Pawar, it was decided to have a common concourse for the two structures. The station will now be shifted for the over 20-storey bhavan which will be the state headquarters for sales tax and GST.
