Kanpur Metro Workforce Count Crosses 1000 Mark, Civil Works Gain Momentum

Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) is making every effort possible to complete the civil construction work of the Kanpur Metro Project within the stipulated time frame by taking steps to accelerate the pace of work to compensate for the time lost during lockdown.

The number of workers working under the project recently crossed the 1000 mark, pushing the momentum of construction works towards faster completion. The civil construction work of the Kanpur metro project is currently divided into two main parts; the Casting Yard and the Corridor (IIT to Motijheel). UPMRC currently has 838 workers engaged at the Casting Yard and Corridor Civil Works while 168 workers are engaged in the work at the Metro Depot.

UPMRC’s Managing Director Kumar Keshav said, “It is a wonderful achievement by UPMRC project team at Kanpur Metro Project. It has been only one month and twenty days since we commenced civil construction work on the priority section of the project starting with nominal labour at the site. I am happy to share that only with our zeal and determination against a very difficult time on account of COVID-19 pandemic, the labor force has crossed the figure of 1000.”

Permanent labour camps are being constructed for labourers inside the Casting Yard. 104 rooms are to be prepared as labour camps, out of which around 70 rooms have been already prepared. Considering social distancing factor, accommodation for only seven labourers per room is permitted although the room has the space for 10 labourers.

The number of labourers for Kanpur Metro Project is continuously increasing with more than half of the workers hailing from the native state.
