After marathon two days meeting between Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation & Government of West Bengal, Kolkata Metro is set to return on tracks starting September 14, however considering students who are writing Joint Examinations, special service may be mobilised a day before on September 13 for examinees.
As per sources present in today’s key meet, it has been decided, Kolkata metro commuters have to pre-book travel slots to avail service. Kolkata Metro Rail has already launched an application on google play store passengers which can be downloaded on smartphones supported by Android or on desktops. After commuters pre-book travel slots, they will receive a colour-coded token or E-pass. Entry will be allowed inside the station only after showing this token for the specific time slot. West Bengal State Transport Department, Kolkata Police and Kolkata Metro will work in unison.
Those who don’t have smart cards that function as tickets at the automatic gates before platform entry, they can purchase it inside the station ticket counters upon showing the E-pass. This E-pass needs to be booked at least 4 to 6hours in advance as per slot availability. There will be hourly time slots announced by the Metro authority.
Kolkata Metro estimates 4000 E-passes are likely to be issued per hour. Trains are likely to run every 12 minutes. Kolkata Metro will resume service with minimum 100 & maximum 120 trains daily. However, it has been decided, newly inaugurated East-West metro, will remain closed for the time being.
Kolkata Police force will man all entry and exit gates of Kolkata Metro stations & frisk passengers before allowing entry. Kolkata Metro authorities have installed sanitisation tunnels and automatic thermal inside the stations for the commuters. Face masks will be mandatory to avail service.
