The trial runs of the western extension of Purple Line (7.5Km Mysuru Road-Kengeri Stretch) of Namma Metro is likely to begin from Today. “There may be the first train test at very slow speed on Tuesday. The first day is basically about testing the adequacy of side gaps ” confirmed Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) managing director Ajay Seth. The section, which is slated to open for commercial operations in June, is expected to cater to 75,000 passengers a day.
Sources say the commissioner of metro rail safety (CMRS) is expected to inspect the corridor in May. After the nod from CMRS, BMRCL will be able to commence commercial operations. The travel time between Mysuru Road and Kengeri will be 15 minutes.
The elevated line will have seven stations — Nayandahalli, Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Jnanabharathi, Pattanagere, Kengeri bus terminal, Kengeri and Challaghatta. Lying across NICE Road, Challaghatta station may be operational by March 2022.
While BMRCL awarded the contract for Mysuru Road and Pattanagere sections to IL&FS Engineering in April 2015, Soma Enterprises got one for Pattanagere-Challaghatta depot in March 2016. Statistics show 96 per cent of civil work between Mysuru Road and Pattanagere is complete, while 94 per cent between Pattanagere and Challaghatta depot is over. However, BMRCL has missed multiple deadlines for this corridor: December 2018, March 2019, November 2019, October 2020 and February 2021. In 2018, IL&FS ran into a financial crisis which slowed down work between Mysuru Road and Pattanagere. BMRCL has been working with sub vendors and contractors of IL&FS to complete the work.
